The screens on most DSLR and mirrorless cameras are good, but most of them are also fairly small.

And the GoPro screen is really, really small.

Sometimes I need a bigger monitor I can hook-up to my camera so I can really see what my shot looks like.

Atomos Shinobi monitor. I’ve had a few different external monitors, but will say the Atomos Shinobi is one of the better ones.

It’s a 5-inch monitor that can sit on top of my camera, a tripod or an extension arm.

It has 4k resolution and a touch-screen. It also has way more settings than I’ll ever use too. Solid and affordable.

iPad Mini. Yes, an iPad Mini.

Since I shoot with a Canon, I can use the free Canon camera app to wirelessly connect to my iPad. In fact, not only can I use the iPad to see what the camera sees, I can control my camera too.

Another plus for using an iPad is that you get way more than just a monitor too. Something to consider for about the same price as a camera external monitor.
