The Gift of Comfort

Life can be unpredictable for Christians and non-Christians alike. But if you’re in Christ, you experience something first-hand.

God-comfort.

God-comfort is a kind of comfort that only God can provide to you his child.

And comfort can come in all different shapes and sizes. Regardless of what type of comfort you – his child – needs, God provides…and then some.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Amazing! God isn’t just interested in my comfort, He’s just as interested in what I do with the comfort I offer someone else! Take another look at verse 4.

He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

See it? The comfort that can only come from God is a gift that He intends for us to share. It’s the original “Pay it Forward”!

“What if I don’t know what to say?”

“I’m not very good at this type of thing!”

“What if I say the wrong thing?”

Those are called excuses that create fear that lead to…well, doing nothing. You may in fact not know what to do on your own but if you trust and take God at his word, you will be able to “give them the same comfort God has given us”.

The truth is this when God comforts us, we have an obligation to comfort others. Don’t know how? That’s okay. Let the Spirit lead you. Just embrace the fact that God has an even bigger purpose for comforting you and it is so you can show others a glimpse of the God-comfort you just got. God uses you for His sake to help others. And the cool thing is, God still gets the credit!

When you need comfort, allow God to do what only He can do, and thank him for His gift of comfort. Then pass it on and see what God does with it.
