Often we have no idea what someone else is going through. We may ask, or half-ask, “how you doing?” and get the answer, “Good. You?”
I’ve done it, asked it, without much investment in how the other person was really doing.
But if we open our eyes, and see others, we may notice their hurt, pain and worry. As the writer in Proverbs says “worry weighs a person down”. The least we can do is pick them up and cheer them up with an encouraging word.
It’s not about deserving. It’s about caring.
That’s what encouragement can do.
Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
