Imagine living in a world with perfect people.

You know the ones who don’t make any mistakes. Never have attitudes. Aren’t rude or butt-heads. Say all the right things at the right time.

Would be great, but the reality is, that’s not the world we live in.

We fight. We tear down. We hurt. We point fingers. We judge.

But what if we lived each day like the broken people we all are.

You.

Me.

Everyone.

Wounded and scared.

Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

Colossians 3:13-14 (NLT)

In two short verses, the writer Paul gives us a way to break through the hurt and pain we carry and cause.

  • Allow other’s faults.
  • Forgive anyone who offends me.
  • Forgive others like God forgave me.
  • Choose love.

That’s it. Short and sweet.

If it seems too simple, maybe it’s because we’ve made it more complicated that it needs to be. Think of the power words Paul uses:

  • “Allow”
  • “Forgive”
  • “Remember”
  • “Clothe”

Imagine living in a world where we make the decision every day to allow, to forgive, to remember God’s mercy and to love.

Imagine how that would change, radically change, all of us, if only we tried to live that every day.
